About Our School

The Les Etangs Combined School is a rural school in the community of Etangs about four miles from the Soufriere Town. The school was opened around 1920, as a small wooden structure with only Infant classes. As the population in the feeder areas increased, the Catholic Church saw the need to extend the school as it was also used on a Sunday for church services, a post office and a health centre. Today, although government plays a more pivotal role in the running of the school, it is still being used for Sunday church services.

One hundred and eighty-six students are presently enrolled at the school. The school’s population comes from communities in the immediate vicinity of the school with the majority coming from the town of Soufriere.
